The Akwa Palace hotel in Douala hosted a press conference last Thursday aimed at reiterating the advantages of the solution « Ymane Driver »the result of a partnership between the State of Cameroon, the company CamTrack and the mobile telephone company MTN.
This technology, implemented two years ago, aims to improve road safety through a geolocation and video surveillance system for interurban road transport.
Representatives of transport unions praised the effectiveness of “Ymane Driver”, in particular thanks to the intelligent cameras on board vehicles, which make it possible to control in real time the biometric parameters of drivers and to monitor the exterior and interior environment of vehicles. . Moïse Vokeng, trade unionist, welcomed this solution and called on the public authorities to take ownership of this concept to strengthen road safety on national roads.
“Today this solution in terms of road safety is more effective and more technical. We strongly encourage the Cameroonian who provided this solution and who is also proving himself. We hope that public authorities will take ownership of this concept and try to popularize it or implement it, if not institutionalizing it across all carrier operations on national roads.”did he declare
Hilaire Tinen, CEO of CamTrack, spoke about the proactive aspect of the Ymane Driver solution, making it possible to anticipate driver behavior and take preventive measures to avoid accidents. The pilot phase launched in December 2021 was a success, and no accidents were reported, leading to the signing of a contract between the Ministry of Transport, CamTrack and MTN Cameroon in February 2022.
